Lightning Bolt @ Le Poisson Rouge/NYU

Lightning Bolt are a Brian Chippendale (drums) and Brian Gibson (bass), aduo from Providence, Rhode Island. The band play complex yet messy high speed noise rock began in 1994 and have risen to a certain degree of cult status. Recently I attended their late night performance at Le Poisson Rouge (04/28/11) and NYU's annual Strawberry Festival. Here's some footage:

Blood Orange at Pianos 19/04/11

Blood Orange, one of the many projects of Devonté Hynes, sounds a lot like Prince... not that that's a bad thing! The one man show boasts Dev in control of beats, guitar, and vox whilst casually grooovin' out his soulfully nostalgic tracks. Dev came out a little later to provide some vocals on a Rewards cut. Unfortunately the footage I took of the Rewards didn't some out as good as I hoped. Anyway, get on Blood Orange at Pianos:

Ghost Pal 04/01/11

photograph: bernadette (click to stream audio via bandcamp)

Friday night Ghost Pal played a free show at Billyburg's Bruar Falls. The Brooklyn 5-piece bump  sixties'd-out-fun based around the exciting, unconventional songwriting of frontman Oliver Ignatius (formerly of The Hysterics). Backed by Justin Coles (guitar), Josh Barocas (bass), Henry Kandel (sax), and Ezra 'Baby Killer' Miller (drums): Ghost Pal mutate from the refined pop heard in their demos to an amped out rock n' roll troupe bent on fun. Here are 4 videos from the set and interprative art:

odd future at the fader fort, sxsw

Changin' it up, bootleg video of OFWGKTA's SXSW set and a drawing.

Odd Future played the Fader Fort at 6:45 pm on a hot Texan Thursday. Skater kids from Cali dropping subversive Hip-Hop your parents would never endorse. They're multi-talented young, anti-everything, frantic... Watch for yourself.

Apologies for the delay, i have been unable to access a computer due to my band's recent involvement in the SXSW showcases. Both Shellac's and Sonic Youth's sets from the first annual ATP New Years event Strange Days are subject of this entry. Recordings of this concert can be downloaded via rapidshare from English bootleg source Phil's Concert Bootlegs.

Shellac is a 3 piece noise rock outfit based in Chicago, Illinois, comprised of Steve Albini (vox/guitar), Todd Treynor (drums), and Bob Weston (bass). They have released four albums and been together for almost 20 years and have affiliated with influential underground rock bands ranging from Big Black, to Mission Of Burma, to other, more successful bands such as Nirvana. This recording captures Shellac's energetic and intelligent approach to music.

i) introduction/acid mothers temple 04/07/10

acid mothers temple & the melting paraiso u.f.o.

jean cocteau once said: "all good music resembles something. good music stirs by its mysterious resemblance to the objects and feelings which motivated it." in the case of http://paint-set.blogspot.com this statement could not be more relevant: artwork inspired by contemporary bootleg recordings.

what better way to begin that with japanese psych-rockers acid mothers temple & the melting pot paraiso u.f.o.. this particular bootleg of the acid mothers temple collective, led by veteran guitar guru kawabata makoto, was uploaded by nyc taper, a local bootlegger , following their performance at brooklyns knitting factory last year.
